Fenton Manor, Stoke.
The British Tumbling Championships was held recently in Stoke. This was a tough competition for some of the gymnasts as they have moved up age groups so are competing against gymnasts older and more skilful then themselves. However as always the girls did us proud. Out of five gymnasts who competed in Saturdays qualifying runs three gained places in Sundays finals. Sian Foster, who moved up to 11/12 age group went into the final placed 7th, competed two good clean runs and moved up to 6th position to finish. Hannah Saunders, age 13/14 went into the finals having upgraded her runs and finished in a comfortable 2nd place taking home a silver medal. Mica Parry, age 17 moved up to the senior section and had to compete against some of the best tumblers in the world. She came 6th place, which was a very respectable place to be.
Well done to all gymnasts who took part.
Mica and Hannah are members of the current National Tumbling squad and with these good results will keep their places there with the girls looking at qualifying towards the World Age Group Championships to be held in Russia in November.
Yet another early start saw some of our girls off to Robin Park in Wigan to participate in a tumbling competition starting at 8:30am. Yes I said Sunday and 8:30am in the same sentence. After a few false starts at finding the place, all the girls were in a good mood and treating it like a girlie day out. Some were nervous as it was their first competition not being held in the club, but they all took it in their stride. The programme had 215 children participating in the tumbling competition as well as a sports acro competition going on at the same time. First on were the older girls in the 8-10 age group (we were a little confused by the age groups as some of our girls were only 7 and in that age group). Anyway they all tried their best and looked good. Unfortunately we didn't get any medal placements in this group but the comp was for their experience and they enjoyed it. Anna and Elin were in a separate group from the others and competed against each other. Anna coming in first with good scores and Elin following closely behind.
After a long morning the younger gymnasts were on. They looked tiny in their group of 5-7 year olds, even though some of them are 7. The first run went really well with all of them getting really high scores. They tried as hard as possible and were rewarded with Hollie coming 2nd and Amy and Rachel coming joint 3rd.
Well done to everyone!!!! Please can we have everyone's pictures for the website - thanx
Hope that's an apple Rachel!
Gymnasts have spent many weeks practicing their tumbling grades ready for this day. For most of the gymnasts this was their first NDP tumbling competition so it was quite daunting for them especially as it is a regional competition competing against gymnasts not only Merseyside but also from Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester. The girls had 3 different tumble runs to compete and the total of each run was added together to get a final score. In the NDP Grade 1 our 9/10 year olds did very well, with Laura Potts taking gold and becoming the NW Champion, Freya Robinson taking silver place and Amy Edwards bronze. Our 11/12 year olds in NDP Grade 1 didn’t want to be outdone so Amee Foster also took gold and became NW Champion, with Sarah James taking bronze with Holly coming 4th and Thea & Maddy 5th. A close competition! Competing at the same grade Elizabeth Graham took silver in the 13+ age group and at NDP Grade 2 Victoria Lane took bronze. As a result of Laura and Amee taking the NW titles they will now represent our club and the region at the British Finals in May in Stoke on Trent.
WELL DONE TO EVERYONE and GOOD LUCK TO LAURA AND AMEE IN THE FINALS.

SUNDAY 8th March 2009
The weekend started off with a training session on Saturday morning for all the gymnasts followed by a buffet lunch. Parents then joined us and the activities started with a ferry trip across to Liverpool with free time to explore the city. Bowling in New Brighton was next then a quick dash over to the Glegg Arms where Richmond were staying, finishing the evening with a meal. The day gave everyone a chance to get to know each other and socialise.
Sunday was competition day. The competition was for those competing at National NDP, Elite NDP and British level with ages ranging from 8 to 17. Gymnasts from both Wirral and Richmond won medals with a team trophy going to Richmond.
The competition finished early afternoon and everyone was glad to go home for a rest! Many thanks to Richmond for coming up and taking part – we all really enjoyed it.
SUNDAY 8th March 2009
Sunday saw the last 4 piece competition for Freya, Christa and Jess.
They all qualified for the North West regional grades competition and it was another long day as they started at 10:50 and the presentation ended at 7! Unfortunately the girls did not get individual placements but we were extremely excited that Freya and Christa landed their beam routines, and all their other pieces. Poor Jess suffering from the flu was not her usual self and narrowly missed out on a fantastic beam score by not landing her spin but landing all her hard moves! Typical. She did well considering she was against girls a lot older than her. All the girls performed well but the Greater Manchester team were far too strong for us. Freya and Jess were representing the Cheshire and Merseyside teams in Grade 13 in age and Grade 12 respectively. The C&M Grade 13 In Age team were placed 3rd and Grade 12 team placed 2nd. The C&M overall position was 3rd.
Freya and Christa who seem to be given jobs by the competition organisers at every competition had the priviledge of presenting flowers to the team coaches of Lancashire, Cheshire and Merseyside and Greater Manchester.
Freya and Jess will now move onto 2 piece and tumbling and Christa will be doing 2 piece and sports acro.

FRIDAY 6th March 2009
On Friday night we held our first inhouse tumbling competition based on the regional grades runs. Our gymnasts ranged in age from 5 - 11 years and included some of our recreation children. Presentation medals were given to all the children and there were 1st, 2nd and 3rd medals for those that performed their runs well. It was an exciting night for the gymnasts and coaches as it was the first competition for many of our gymnasts.
It also gave our new judges a chance to practice their skills ready for the many competitions that are coming up.
Janine and I were particularly proud of the recreation children as they took the competition in their stride and got on with what they had to do. Many of them narrowly missed out on medals performing great runs. We hope this will become an annual competition but I think I can safely say we will move it to a weekend day as everyone was ready for bed after a long day!!
1st March 2009
It was an early start for everyone for this one. For a lot of our gymnast this was there first Sports Acro competion and for Gina, Hollie, Jenny & Ella it was their first ever competition, so there was a lot of nervous looking faces (parents as well as gymnasts)! We were extremely proud of all the girls and their performance on the day. All pairs performed beautiful routines with Rachel & Autumn performing brilliantly in Prep B and receiving a well deserved gold medal and fantastic score of 25.62.
It was Gina’s 9th birthday on the day of the competition and due to the early start she hadn’t had time to open all her presents in the morning, I’m sure they were opened pretty quickly once she got home!
This competition created an opportunity for some of our younger gymnasts to compete and all their performances showed to us that we have a fantastic group of Sports Acro gymnasts coming up and we can expect great things from all of them in the future.
Well done to all the girls!
