Merseyside 2-Piece

Another medal fest for the girls from Wirral as they attended the Merseyside Gymnastics Forum's annual 2 Piece competition, held in Liverpool in December 2004. Competing against more than 300 gymnasts on the Floor and Vault apparatus against teams from Liverpool, St. Helen's, Knowsley, Bebington and Birkenhead, our teams brought back an incredible 30 medals!

Cheshire and Merseyside Novice and Intermediate

Another successful day for the club took place at the Cheshire and Merseyside Novice and Intermediate Women's Artistic Championships, held in Liverpool on the 28th November. In a tight competiton, Wirral gymnasts brought back 21 medals and a championship trophy for the club. The medal tally included 4 Golds, 10 Silvers, and 7 Bronzes.

British Tournament

What a fantastic result! Both the Women's and the Men's Tumbling squad took part in the prestigious British Tournament in November 2004, taking the Championship medals in both senior competitions! Wirral also scored a silver medal in the Under 12 girls, and a bronze in the Under 10 girls. Great news indeed.

Appley Bridge 2-piece Competition

On the 14th November, 2004, 22 Wirral gymnasts took part in a 2 piece competition at the Appley Bridge Gymnastics Club in Wigan. Competing against girls from 9 other Northern clubs, the girls came away with 16 medals and 3 overall winner trophies. Well done to everybody who took part!

Mersey Sports Awards 2004
Sports Club of the Year

At a celebratory gala in Liverpool on the 29th October, Wirral Gymnastics Club was awarded the prestigious title of Sports Club of the Year for 2004 by Mersey Sport, an organisation affiliated to the Wirral Sports Council. The award was given in recognition of achievements over the year in Tumbling, Men's and Women's Artistic Gymnastics. Derek, Karen and Janine were there to accept the award on behalf of the club. When asked about the night, they said 'Actually, we don't remember much about the night, but we know we had a good time....' Well done!

British Gymnastics GymMark Accreditation

In October, Wirral Gymnastics were awarded the GymMark accreditation by the British Amateur Gymnastics Association, one of the first clubs on the Wirral to achieve this accolade. This accreditation demonstrates to everybody that the club has been assessed by independent auditors, and the policies and practices of the club have been found to be amongst the highest standards in the country. Wirral will now be used as a model club to help others in the region reach the same standard.

NWAGA Women's Artistic 4-piece Championships, 2004

These championships were held at the Blackpool Leisure Centre on the 23rd and 24th October. Wirral gymnasts took 5 bronze, 4 silver, and 4 gold medals, including 2 North West all round champion titles! A fantastic result, well done to everybody.

North-West Regional Tumbling Championship, 2004

This competition was held at the Park Road sports Centre in Liverpool on the 17th October. Wirral gymnasts took 2 bronze, 2 silver and 1 gold. Well done to everybody who took part!

Summer Camp, August 2004

The ever popular Wirral Gym Summer Camp proved to be a hit again in this August, as the gymnasts and coaches mixed intensive training sessions in the National Sports Centre in Largs in Scotland, with visits to the surrounding countryside. The superb facilities helped the gymnasts to try new moves, and allowed the coaches to work together to bring out the best in everybody.

Neston Sets, July 2004

On the 4th July, 34 Wirral Gymnasts represented the club at the annual Neston Sets Competition. Competing against 7 other clubs from the region, Wirral took 32 medals, including 11 Gold, 13 Silver, and 8 Bronze. This fantastic showing earned Wirral Gym Club second place in the competition overall. Well done to all those who took part.

National Development Plan Northwest Grades Championships March 2004

In March, 11 of the 24 Cheshire and Merseyside representatives taking part in the Grades Championships were Wirral gymnasts. This was the largest representation from any club and meant that we had gymnasts competing in each of the 6 County teams. Once again the results were excellent with the teams winning 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal. Kate Haldon became the Northwest grade 4 in age champion and Sophie Holmes became the Grade 6 out of age champion. Aisha Stalker was the Grade 6 in age bronze medallist.

National Development Plan Cheshire and Merseyside Grades Competition (Grades 6,5&4) January 2004

In January 2004, the club took part in the annual County Grades competition with excellent results. 13 Wirral gymnasts entered the competition winning 10 medals (2 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze) and 11 places in the Cheshire and Merseyside County Squad. The remaining two girls qualified as first reserves for the squad. 10 of the gymnasts passed their grades with distinction
